Travelling solo no longer exists. Thanks to mobile apps, there’s a variety of new options to download and help you along the way. At the touch of a button the world becomes your oyster.

From the planning to packing and managing your bookings, here are our top six travel apps recommendations. Remember to download them before you set off on your adventures in 2015!

To help choose your next Destination: TouristEye

Available: iOS and Android – FREE

Stressing out choosing a destination to travel to? Ease your woes with TouristEye. It features a collection of lists to cater to all of your travelling tastes. There are 10,000 locations and 300,000 places to choose from – which are categorised into lists such as ‘the best cities to visit in Europe in winter’. Filter down the selection by adding your dream destinations to a wish list before deciding on ‘the one.’

 

For hiring a car: Avis App

Available: iOS and Android – FREE

Now you’ve found a destination and hotel for your next trip, why not open more doors and explore new roads? As I’m sure you can tell, we’re really excited to have launched our new mobile app! Now you can save time and choose a car to suit your journey – it just makes life that much easier. Plus, you can even take advantage of our extra offers and track all your loyalty benefits. So why not give it a test drive?!

 

For those last-minute-change-of-plan hotel finds: HotelTonight

Available: iOS, Android and Windows – FREE

There are some things you can’t plan. Sometimes your road trip takes a longer scenic route than planned. This handy hotel app lets you book rooms at short notice – as late as that very night. In just three swipes you can take advantage of the best room deals in over 500 destinations across the world. Fear not – all room types are feature such as basic, hip and luxe.

  

To take the hassle out of packing: PackPoint

Available: iOS and Android – FREE

No list is more frustrating to create than a packing list. You either forget those essential items, or completely over pack. Thankfully, PackPoint does all the hard work for you. All you need to do is tap in your destination, dates of travel, length of stay and activities you plan on doing. It then creates a customised packing list, taking your destination’s weather forecast and your itinerary into consideration. Unfortunately you still have to do the packing, but at least you’ll know what to take!

 

For ski enthusiasts looking for new routes and trails: iTrailMap

Available: iOS and Android – FREE

Still taking your fold away map to the pistes? No need for that hassle when you have iTrailMap. This app includes maps and guides from over 750 major ski and snowboard resorts around the world. Once downloaded, the maps are stored on your phone, and ready to use. Just pick your preferred trails and get skiing. There’s no need for a signal – not always obtainable atop a snowy mountain –  the app has a GPS function so you are good to slalom.

 

To share your travel stories and discoveries: Trover

Available: iOS and Android – FREE

No more aimless wandering in a new location. Trover detects where you are and displays an array of ‘discoveries’ in an Instagram-like form that have been uploaded by other travellers, along with a personal travel tip. Plan your trips by searching a location using geotags –  and of course create your own ‘discoveries’ along the way.

 

For tracking your globetrotting progress: Been

Available: iOS and Android – FREE

Looking for something new? Been allows you to select all the countries you’ve visited and calculates your overall world travel percentage from each continent. You might be spurred on to travel more, or you may even marvel at your globetrotting history. Those of you who want to share your results can do so on social networks and email – there’s no law against bragging is there?
