Welcome to the first installment of the best road trips in the world.  With so much to see and do, road trips should be planned carefully and well in advance to ensure you get the most out of them. This post explores some of the best known road routes around the world to give you some inspiration for your travels.

1. Route 66, America

Route 66 is the most famous road in the United States of America.  As a precursor to the modern US highway system, this road runs for nearly 4,000 kilometers across the US from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Along the way it passes through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. It’s for these reasons that it is known colloquially as the ‘main street of America’.  Along this highway make sure you visit sites such as: The Gemini Giant, Tow Tater, The Blue Whale or The Big Texan. If Route 66 takes your fancy, pick up your Avis car from Chicago to start your journey across this infamous route!
