We have picked out some of the best places to surf around the world. All you will need is your Avis car to travel around the coast, surf board and a few waves to get you started.

1)      Gold Coast, Australia

Australia has some of the best beaches and waves in the world. With golden sands, blue waters and warm temperatures, Australia’s Gold Coast definitely showcases the good life!

A surfer’s paradise, there is around 70 km of beach to try out and has the most consistent waves around the world. Drive down the coast to find your perfect spot such as: Mermaid beach, Narrowneck and Palm beach just to name a few!

2)      Jeffreys Bay, South Africa

Located where the Atlantic meets the Pacific, it is no surprise that there are some fantastic waves in the unique waters of South Africa. The climate is perfect for surfing, so take a drive from Jeffreys Bay to discover some of the country’s top beach locations. It has been labelled one of the top five destinations in the world for surfing and hosts the Billabong Pro ASP tour event year on year. So if you are an avid surfer and want to watch some of the best in the business, this is the place for you.

3)      California, USA

California is undoubtedly the home of the ‘surfer dude’ attitude! If you are looking for big waves and rugged shores then head up to Northern California which plays host to some of the most extreme surfing conditions. The area known as the Mavericks is for those who have the need for speed!

For a more peaceful and modern surfing environment, Central and Southern California is perfect. For that movie star experience, make sure you visit Malibu and Venice beach. Take your open top car and soak up the Cali lifestyle.

4)      Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a surfer’s paradise. The stunning Caribbean/Pacific location means that the climate is warm and so is the water. The surf is consistent all year round making it a hotspot to travel to.

As the island is relatively small, you can chop and change from one surfing destination to another in no time. Drive to Playa Naranjo during high season from April to October and you’ll find some astonishing surf.
