Welcome to the first installment of the best road trips in the world.  With so much to see and do, road trips should be planned carefully and well in advance to ensure you get the most out of them. This post explores some of the best known road routes around the world to give you some inspiration for your travels.

1. Route 66, America

Route 66 is the most famous road in the United States of America.  As a precursor to the modern US highway system, this road runs for nearly 4,000 kilometers across the US from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Along the way it passes through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. It’s for these reasons that it is known colloquially as the ‘main street of America’.  Along this highway make sure you visit sites such as: The Gemini Giant, Tow Tater, The Blue Whale or The Big Texan. If Route 66 takes your fancy, pick up your Avis car from Chicago to start your journey across this infamous route!

The Pan American Highway crosses an entire continent, and at 24,000 kilometers long, is not to be taken lightly. If you feel like an adventure, then this is the road trip for you. Why not start at the southernmost tip of the road’s official route in Buenos Aires, and head north? Who knows where this famous road will take you along the way! Passing through an array of landscapes, climates and environments across the country there is a huge variety of places to stop and explore.  From Chile to Suriname, Guyana, Paraguay and more, this is one of the greatest road trips in the world.

3. Coast to coast, South Africa

South Africa is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Playing host to an abundance of stunning wildlife, incredible coastline and fascinating history, this is a road trip that’s a treat for all the senses

Hire a car in Cape Town and explore the wonders of Durban, the Ndumo Game Reserve and the incredible UNESCO World Heritage site near the border with Namibia, for some breath-taking views and scenery.

This is a road trip at its very best and with Table Mountain in your rear view mirror you’re sure to have plenty of stories and photos to share with friends and family back home.

One of the problems some people experience when hiring a car is the logistics.  If you are on holiday picking up the rental car at the airport couldn’t be simpler, but what happens if you want to have car hire delivered to your door?

Getting to the car rental depot can sometime be a bit of a problem. If you don’t have a car then you could always rely on public transport but this might not always be practical and stations are not always within easy access of car hire depots. By the time you factor in the spiraling cost of a train fare and amount of time spent collecting your vehicle – the situation may prove to be counterproductive.

Avis: a better hire care experience

At Avis we’ve put our minds to work thinking of ways to get round this common problem and while we have plenty of well placed hire car centers in easily accessible downtown locations, we know that this isn’t always enough.

That’s why we have devised the Avis Delivers service. This couldn’t be simpler and sees car hire delivered to your door. We can deliver a car to any address (provided it matches that on your driving license) so that you don’t have to worry about reaching the depot. Our service doesn’t end there, as we’ll also collect it once you’re done.

There are no bus timetables or train delays to contend with. Just simply step out the front door into your car and have it picked up again when you’re finished; leaving you more time to do all the other things you want to do! If you book by 12 o’clock we can deliver a car to you the very same day.

The service is great value too at only £15 per delivery and £15 per pick up. That’s a better deal than a lot of average train journeys and if there is more than one of you travelling can equate to substantial saving over both journeys. Simply call Avis or go online to make your booking or for further inquiries.

It’s a rent a car service with a difference that works for you at your convenience.

Exploring unknown roads is an exciting prospect for many drivers. Filled with new experiences, scenery and sites, it is a pastime that many drivers will never tire of.

So why not choose the perfect make and model of car to maximise your experience – and that is where the Select Series from Avis comes into play. With the Select Series you can hire a car with a difference.  Imagine if you will, an Audi A1 Sportback S line or a Mercedes Benz A-Class SE. Enjoy a hire car with a bit of luxury.

What sets them apart?

The Select Series is available at a range of locations around the UK, including several major airports and select town locations. Whether you’re on holiday or visiting for business, travelling the British roads in a luxury car will give you the opportunity to enjoy your surroundings. With soft seats offering support and comfort, firm handling and suspension, evening out any lumps in the road and the benefits of climate control or air conditioning protecting you from the potentially dreary weather conditions outside.

The best feature of the Select Series is that it allows you to choose the make and model you want when booking. If you have had a preference for a particular car in the past, the Select Series will enable you to try out your preferred model. Some of the current cars available for hire within the Select Series include:

• Audi A1 Sportback S Line – featuring 17 inch alloy wheels and built in sat nav

• Audi A5 Spotback SE – with leather interior and parking aid

• Mercedes-Benz A-Class SE – featuring Eco start-stop function and Bluetooth connectivity

• Peugeot RCZ GT – with twin sports exhausts and rear spoiler

• Peugeot 308cc – with electronically retractable rigid roof

At Avis we ensure customers always get a fair deal; if their preferred car model is not available at checkout, then the cost of the rental quoted when the reservation was made will be refunded. This excludes any additional products added and is only available to those who have made a reservation at least 72 hours prior to going through rental checkout.
