Two of the “values and cultural themes” that our staff are measured against internally are “passion” and “compete to win”. I can tell you that these were visible in abundance on Friday as Avis participated in the “World’s Largest Coffee Morning” to raise money for our nominated charity Macmillan Cancer Support. Competition was heated as each floor in our head office set up shop in a bid to raise more money than the others.
Of course when you’ve got Beth’s awesome chicken curry to sell then there really is going to be one winner (despite the fact that Marcus forgot to bring the rice). Among the various other money earning activities was the opportunity to play Singstar on the Playstation 2. Thankfully, following Darren’s rendition of Kung Fu Fighting, a ‘noise’ which I can tell you was worse than nails scratching a blackboard, Singstar remained relatively untouched. But despite the lack of Singstar action, head office managed to raise £688.
We have also had news about the fundraising exploits of our station in Gatwick airport (see picture above) who served arrivals to the airport with coffee, biscuits and cakes (baked expertly by Jackie Del Maschio – we’re told they’re amazing!). This raised a further £156 for the cause.
All in all a great day with most people carrying a little more weight than perhaps they were at the start of the day. Were you were involved in the “World’s Largest Coffee Morning”? If so, we would love to hear from you too!
